Hello Andrea,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, material and the style, I concluded that this is a Pair of English Style Wood Candlestick with Brass or Bronze Tops. Dating back to the period between 1910-1940. Likely from the early years of the 20th century. The piece has a carved twisted design, hand carved. This design is also named as Solomonic Column style and it was used in the 18th 19th and early 20th century both in architecture and in decorative arts. Wooden bodies has a dark varnish on them as well as partial paint. The bases are large and wide to hold steady the possible loads of large candles. The green base protector fabric underneath the piece on the left is a characteristic colour for fabric protectors in the early 20th century. The piece on the left probably also had it but was lost or worn off. The tops of these pieces were finished in bronze or brass to prevent the possible damage by the heat coming from melting candle particuls. Both pieces are in good condition with signes of age and use with notable scratches and ware.

Hand carved.

Dimensions: 10 Inches High by 4.5 Inches Wide.

Condition: Both pieces are in good condition with signes of age and use with notable scratches and ware.

Provenance: Owned by the current owner and the owner's fiancé, the current owner inherited the pair upon fiancé's death.

150-200$.
