Two Vintage Reliefs-Cameos
These seem to be made from sort of stone?
Hi Rick,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
These most likely ARE marked on the back but as they may be glued into the velvet mats and giltwood frames, you'd probably damage them - and diminish the value - if you try to take them out of the frames. They don't have the look of the *best* examples, so even if we knew who made them, they would likely not be worth considerably more.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A pair of Grand Tour glazed white porcelain framed reliefs
Unattributed maker, in the Classical manner, probably Italian, 19th Century
Two white porcelain relief panels of putti with animals, on velvet mats, framed. fronts unmarked and not examined out of the frame.
each giltwood framed 12 by 16 inches
CONDITION: both appear to be in good condition
PROVENANCE: inherited; possibly brought from Canada in the early 20th Century
$150-250 each or $300-500 for the two together*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
