Hello Kylie,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Caucasian-Kazak Rug. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1980 to 2000. Based on the mint condition and the colours as well as the technique this is a rug made in the revival rug ateliers of Turkey in late 1980's and till late early 2000's. To revive the old style of knotting in Turkey, natural dyes were used on the item, this could be understood from the unstability of the colours in vrious areas and close-ups. Kazak pieces of Turkey are villager rugs and usually does not have a high knot density as we can see on this piece as well. Although the knot density is not very high, the motifs are rendered in good quality due to the geometrically constructed shapes of the motifs. The piece is centrally deocorated with a central medallion shaped as a "Scorpion". Scorpion figure is used in Anatolian and all Turkish Rugs as a symbol to defeat and scare away the bad luck, bad news and evil spirits. The outer decoration is entirely floral, this floral motif is usually seen in Caucasian and West Anatolian Turkih Rugs such as Çanakkale Rugs. This motif is actually constructed by use of the duplicated "Ham Horn" motifs and is a symbol of power and fertility. The piece is knotted in a high quality, especially for the period. The piece is knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition without visible problems.

Entirely hand knotted.

Dimensions: 4 Feet 7 Inches by 8 Feet 1 Inches

Condition: The piece is in good condition without visible problems.

Provenance: Unknown.

Heavily decorated by traditional Turkish Caucasian patterns.

900-1500$.

Please remember that this is a Fair Market Value and it represents the piece's possible auction sale price, the retail price could be considerably higher.
