Recently I have come in possession of two paintings by the Cambodian artist Sophannarith Thou. I purchased these from a person, who acquired them in Cambodia seven years ago during a visit there. This person did not know anything of the painter artist and just bought them, as she liked the subject and colours. Before I migrated to Australia in 1980, I was employed as a high school teacher with degrees in graphics and art. I had heard of Sophannith Thou before and was keen to acquire some of his works from this person. Unfortunately, the seller could not give me any further info about the works.

This is a set of 2 wonderful art pieces by Cambodian artist Sophannarith Thou. Sophannarith Thou, one of Cambodia’s most prestigious artists; born in 1960 and student from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 2000 he was acknowledged as an “Honorable Painter” by the Ministry of Culture of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Oil on canvas, mounted on a stretcher. Painted in expressionistic style with a snapshot of nature life of a lion. The lower left signed Sophannarith.
