A Shin-Gunto Katana. the blade is traditionally made as the grain from steel folding is visible along with the temper line. The tang has Japanese Characters on itl and on the other side a number 15 is stamped. The handle is wrapped ray-skin and the latch that keeps the sword sheathed is intact. The fittings are all in excellent condition. The Sheath is aluminum, and coated with a green color. it has two hangers attached. Everything is in wonderful condition and perfect working order.

The presented object appears to be a Japanese "Shin Gunto" sword of a member of the Imperial Japanese Navy in the WWII period. This sword which means "new military sword" was designed in memory of the Japanese sword tradition and in usage between 1935 and 1945 for the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy.
The blade appears to be of a higher quality than the standard industrial-made blades. The sheat has two hangers which identifies this sword for the Japanese Navy. Such swords came as trophies of GIs after WWII in high numbers to the United States.
This piece is in medium condition and no severe damage is visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 400 to 800 USD.
