Hello Michele,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Tabriz Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1940 to 1955. The piece is very elegantly decorated with a classical 19th century pattern. The piece's size is also an indication of it's distinct quality and prestige. These type of rugs are usually specially designed and knotted for specific areas. The earthly tones and the impressive harmony that was constructed here is a sign of an high-end piece. The piece is centrally decorated with an outstanding symmetrical complex medallion, it is very different and acts both as a central medallion and as axes of symmetry. The octopus branches and large size classical Persian flowers are playing a key role in the medallion as well as large sized Ardabil Leaves. The central are is decorated on a pale pink tone which was likely faded due to wrong techniques of washing. Borders are quite large as usual to antique pieces and decorated with large size floral motifs on a pale Khaki toned base. The piece is a very collectible piece and a semi-antique rug. The piece is knotted wool on cotton and the knot density is quite high. Therefore the motifs were rendered in high quality. The edges show some color loss, otherwise in good condition without significant problems.

Entirely hand knotted.
