I believe these are a pair of handmade Rajasthani Wedding Horses. The female has more paint flakes
Hi Denise,
Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
These horses have been perennially popular among tourists since the 19th Century and continue to this day. There are a good number of antique and vintage ones on the market but even larger ones - more than 24 inches (2 feet) tall - usually don't even bring as much as $150.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:
A group of two Indian painted wood "wedding" horses
Rajasthani style, late 19th or early 20th Century
Featuring a brown-painted male horse and a yellow-painted female horse
Male horse: 12-1/2 inches high
Female horse: 14 inches high
CONDITION: both with some wear, the client represents the female (yellow) horse has more paint flaking and loss
PROVENANCE: acquired at auction
$50-75 each, or $100-150 for the group of two*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
Please let us know if you have additional items to appraise, or questions/concerns, and thank you again for using Mearto.
