What does this mean?

Dear Denny,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

This is an appraisal for a pair of two large oil paintings on canvas by the French Impressionist artist called Octave Guilbert (1800-1900). One of them is a view of the Moulin Rouge. They are both signed on the lower right and are housed in a beautiful frame. The condition appears to be good overall, with a couple of paint fleck losses.

The estimation highlighted in red above is based on comparables offered and sold at auction in the last five years. The subject work’s size, the composition, condition (based on photographs and comments provided), and the artists’ current auction market were taken into consideration when determining the estimate. In many cases, pricing for similar items available on the primary (retail) market vary and are often higher than secondary (auction) market examples.

Best regards,

Karine
