What does this mean?

Dear Bonnie,

Your ewer is made in China but it is not very old. The material is called White metal a alloy of some metals to make it resemble silver. Marks on Chinese objects rarely represent the time of making. So Ming / Qing period marks used are more a display of quality or just to honor the old Chinese emperor. These objects are made for export to the western country's in Europe and USA. Your object has only decorative value.
