Description from user:

Have had this painting from my grandfather. He got in from an auction maybe in 70-80s. It looks like it’s signed by dainty. And it’s numbered on back 4 of 63.

I know nothing about this painting

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

The presented object appears to be a medium-sized painting made in oil or acrylic paint on canvas with unknown measurements. The painting depicts a clown scared by an Jack-in-the-Box toy. This painting was made by the artist Henri D’ANTY (French 1910-1988).
Works by this artist were recently offered and sold on the international auction market.
This piece is in good condition and there is no serious damage visible in the images provided.
A fair market estimation would be between 150 to 300 USD.
This estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparable items. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and may vary.
