Hello Mark,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Persian Baluchi Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1950 to 1970. The piece is a three medallioned Baluchi Rug with traditional decorative elements. Baluchis are a community that exists in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. They are very famous with their well aligned and geometrical rug patterns as well as their rug's qualities. The piece is not centrally decorated but rather alligned with a central area decorated with multi medallions that are equal to each other decorative wise. This allignment is usually seen in runner rugs such as this one. The colour palette used in this piece is very significant because it is closer to the early 20th century pieces rather than mid-century or vintage productions. This is an important aspect that resemble the high quality. The piece was of course made for export purposes, therefore this is an industrial pattern influcend from a traditional one. The piece has human figures on it's each inner edge followed by many ram horns motifs that resemble power and fertility in Oriental Rugs. Rest of the pattern is mostly floral. The central area was knotted on a dark red base as well as the borders. The piece is knotted wool on wool and the knot density is average for a Baluchi piece. The piece is in good condition without visible problems.

Entirely hand knotted.

Dimensions: 32 Inches by 62 Inches

Condition: The piece is in good condition without visible problems.

Provenance: Purchased from a dealer in 1970, Washington DC.

Heavily decorated by traditional Baluchi patterns.

600-800$.
