Hello Stephanie,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Turkish Hereke Rug. The piece dates back to the period from 1970 to 1990. The piece is classically dceorated with o known Hereke pattern. The name of the pattern is "Flower of The Seven Mountains". Hereke Imperial factory where Hereke Rugs actually took their name from was established near Istanbul in Hereke in 19th century. Seven Mountains refers to seven hills of Istanbul. There are seven depicted different flower types knotted on the piece for the hills again. The scale of the borders and the floral patterns are considerably smaller than earlier piecesproduced by Hereke Factory of the Turkish Republic after the Ottoman Period. This likely indicates that it was a later piece after the partial collapse of the market in late 70's as a result of Chinese reproductions. The central area's base in knotted on a red base while the borders were knotted on an ivory base. The borders were divided into thirteen pieces, which refelcts the elaborate design of the rug. The borders were florally decorated with duplicated motifs of geometrical flowers encircled by leaves. The piece is knotted by symmetrical Turkish Knot. The piece was knotted wool on cotton. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems.

Entirely hand knotted.
