Description from user:

2 pcs.- both are 10.5”by 4.75” at top and 4.375” at base. Green gilded glass decorated with enameled floral of orange, blue, green and white. Some blow bubbles in base, indicating hand blown.

I have a pair of chalices from Germany. They are gilded Venetian glass. They were originally given to my mother by her housekeeper in 1950. The lore behind them was that they were taken from a castle in possibly Lichtenstein, that was under siege. She was told to take what was necessary in order to gain safe passage. I have no idea how much was true, or how much was made up, but they have sat in a cabinet for 75 years.

Hi John,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
These are lovely and that's a fun story, though there's no way to corroborate it. Unfortunately, the market for 19th Century gilt glass is pretty soft for all but the most spectacular - and well documented - pieces.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A pair of antique Venetian style gilt decorated emerald glass chalices
European, 19th Century
Each of circular section and tapered form with paneled and stylized foliate decoration, on circular feet (unmarked).
each 10 1/2 inches high, 4 3/4 inches diameter at top, 4 1/4 inches dieame.5”x4.75x4.25 at base
CONDITION: both appear to be in good condition; value assumes no chips, breaks, cracks or repairs.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$400-600 for the pair*
