Description from user:

This Baoule wooden female figure stands c.14-1/2" tall and is in excellent condition. There is a thin vertical crack through the length of the torso (front) that does not extend through the piece. There is a shell (cowrie?) beadwork ornament at the waist. It was from the collection of my mother, Phyllis Pray Bober, a noted art historian.

(as stated in the description, inherited 2002.)

What does this mean?

Dear David,

Thank you for your request. The presented object is a tribal art figure with the measurements of 14-1/2" height. It is a Baule tribes fertility idol and is decorated with shells. This piece was made in the Ivory Coast in the late 19th or more probable in the 20th century.
This piece is in good condition and there are no serious damages visible.
An estimation would be between 300 to 600 USD.
This estimation is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.

With kind regards,
Georg
