Hand carved Chinese tea table from Hong Kong. Bought in 1950s. With protective glass top. Uncertain what wood. Has a small drawer in center. Table is 40 inches x 17 inches deep x 14 inches high.
My late husband bought this in Hong Kong in the 1950s when in Navy during Korean war.
Thank you for contacting Mearto. This is a hand carved Chinese tea table. Tables like these are often carved from hardwoods, particularly mahogany. This one looks like it is mahogany. It was probably made during the first half of the 20th century.
The piece is covered in traditional Chinese scenes and flower motifs. There is some wear in places.
Tables like these are so full of workmanship and time, but they are not as highly valued as it seems they should be. It is possible that appreciation will grow with time, as the market becomes more attuned to Chinese arts and buyers from that background.
