Description from user:

4 piece set of plates. They do have a few rust spots but no markings. The design looks Chinese ? but I don't see many antique Chinese Porcelain pieces with fruit.

What does this mean?

Dear Quiana,

These are qing hua/MIng style plates. I think we discussed the rust spots as signs of age before. I don’t see a lot of fruit motifs on Chinese porcelain, but there are some. I linked to a few examples below. The plates’ cobalt designs have the slightly blurry quality that indicates they were made in an underglaze technique. This was developed earlier, but used most regularly in the Ming period. I added a link below about underglaze vs. overglaze painting. For four plates, the Fair Market Value, assuming these are Ming, is between $1000 and $2000.

Ming dishes with fruit motifs, and hammer prices:

$2000, bowl

$1000, bowl

$850, jar

$475, plate

$1200, four ming plates (not fruit)

This one only lists the price for the lot, not the individual vase
