Description from user:

It is a ceramic vessel that appears to be an Asian Kendi. I am unsure of the age; I don’t know whether it is antique or a modern replica. It has a nice consistent glaze on the inside, but the outside appears to only be partially glazed.

I inherited this from a deceased aunt so I do not know much about it. I have no idea if it’s antique or a modern replica.

Hello Zach,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, porcelain quality and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Made Kendi. Kendi is a Southeast Asian Drinking Flask. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1950 to 1980. The piece appears to be a reproduction made from mid-century onwards. This glazing anormaly visible on your piece is usually not seen on original pieces with this apperance which usually date back to 13th century onwards. Later original pieces were looking different in comparison to this typology. The piece has a wider rim and an inner glaze. Also, since original pieces are usually several hundreds year old they do not come with the original stopper on top. The piece is in good condition with a visible crack on the stopper, no other problems.

Entirely hand made

Dimensions: 4 Inches by 4 Inches by 4 Inches.

Condition: The piece is in good condition with a visible crack on the stopper, no other problems.

Provenance: Inherited from a late aunt.
