Description from user:

Lamp is vintage from the 1950s or 1960s. I believe the black ball is ceramic, and the"space age" decorations are brass. The lamp was rewired at one point, and the fiberglass shade is a reproduction, but i believe built on the wire frame of the original. I don't know who made the lamp, and I have never seen another like it. Base to top screw 31" Base to lightbulb 24" Diameter of base 8" Diameter of shade (large part) 14"

What does this mean?

Hi Alex,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
I've never seen one of these lamps before either; it was typical for these lamps to have been made in pairs.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A vintage ceramic and brass "Sputnik" table lamp
American or European, circa 1950s-60s
A reproduction two-tiered fiberglass shade raised over 6 rays issuing from a black glazed ceramic orb with star decoration raised on four brass feet over a black ceramic(?) base on wooden plinth foot. Unmarked.
31 inches overall height; diameter of base 8 inches; diameter of shade: 14 inches
CONDITION: With a reproduction fiberglass shade but otherwise this lamp appears to be in good condition.
PROVENANCE: Acquired at a garage/yard sale
$800-1,200*
*represents a fair-market value for auction purposes; retail or asking price may vary.
