Hello Avery,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, knot density and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Knotted Antique Sarouk Rug. The piece dates back to the period between 1910-1930. Circa 1920. The piece is entirely florally decorated. Most of the Sarouk pieces from the period were knotted on a red or salmon toned base on the central area. Rarest central base colour in this category was this “Deep, Indigo Blue”. Hence, this piece appears to be quite prestigious for it’s production period and for this moment. As usual for Sarouk pieces, this piece was decorated centrally but very elegantly without a large and circular medallion by use of a single small floral medallion surrounded by enlarging motifs. Borders appears to be quite thick, and their ratio with the central area is impressive aesthetically. Main border of the piece is knotted on a salmon coloured base. The piece appears to be knotted wool on wool and since more contemporary pieces were knotted wool on cotton this may be another sign of the piece’s age. The knot density is high for the period (143 KPSI) and the quality is superb. The motifs therefore were rendered clearly. The piece has two representations of tree of life on it’s each end aside from semi medallions circularly shaped. The piece is in good condition for it’s age with colour loss due to use and sun exposure, likely loss of pile as well since it’s thickness reduced considerably. Restored, treated fringes.

Entirely hand knotted.

Dimensions: 12 Feet by 17 Feet.

Condition: The piece is in good condition for it’s age with colour loss due to use and sun exposure, likely loss of pile as well since it’s thickness reduced considerably. Restored, treated fringes.

Provenance: Purchased from an old couple’s auction.

Heavily decorated by traditional Sarouk patterns.

2500-5000$.
