Hello Elizabeth,

I’m very glad that you chose Mearto for your online appraisal,

Considering the photographs, overall pattern, porcelain quality and the colours, I concluded that this is a Continental European Porcelain with Oriental Inspirations from China and Japan. The European courts and the European Art Fashion were considerably affected by the Chinese culture, many rooms were established in palaces around Europe under the name of "Chinoiserie Rooms". Of course this trend also affected the Porcelain Art, this piece was clearly a result of this phenomenon which was active early 20th century. The piece likely dates back to the period from 1880 to 1910. The piece was not entirely hand painted but rather enhacned by hand on a transferred pattern as well as underglaze cobalt accents. Most of the golden accents on the piece were hand painted. The piece is centrally decorated with a floral pattern at the center including a vase and "Famille Rose" style flower motifs. The marks under the piece is cold stamp marks, letter marks in this font are usually produced in a small period of time between the suggested periods. It is hard to ensure the country of Origin but definetely a West-Northern European Country, likely England or Netherlands. The style of the metal backing for hanging is also quite strange, does not appear to be made after 1950's. The piece has a number of "2" underneath it in red colour. The piece is in good condition without any visible problems.

Hand Painted and Transfer Ware.
