Description from user:

Mohair bear with amber/clear glass eyes, straw filled, pointed snout and something in the tummy- perhaps a growler. Paw material is like an oilcloth fabric. I got this at an estate sale from the original owners daughter. It was given to their mom in 1906 when she was born. Has condition issues and needs mending in places. About 15” long. Jointed arms and legs may have been jointed but one is now fixed in place from mending. Some areas need to be re stuffed such as the snout and upper arms.

From a family estate in Poughkeepsie NY. Original owner. Dates to 1906 at least.

What does this mean?

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.

It is a lovely antique teddybear. Such antique soft toys are being offered at auction on a regular basis.
The teddybear appears to have had a lovely life with many secrets and stories and best friends this has resulted in a fur that is worn and missing in some areas and paws that has been redone. The teddy bear also has some repairs and the stuffing is falling out. All this has to be taken into account when appraising antique toys as collectors and dealers prefer items that are in mint condition and never has been played with. This is very rarely the case when talking about toys.
I agree that the teddy bear is from the first part of the 1900s. It is quite possibly a European teddybear that was exported to America. In particular Germany had a very large production of soft toys that were exported worldwide.
I believe that the teddy would attract the attention of both collectors and dealers if it came up for auction this is why the estimate is quite wide.
The estimate provided is for a well-advertised specialised online toys auction, where I believe the teddybear has the best chance of realising its fullest potential. However, there is no measurement for the sentimental value you might attach to the sweet teddybear. Retail "asking prices" can be higher and vary.
