Considering the photographs, overall pattern, carving quality, wood properties and the colours, I concluded that this is an Entirely Hand Painted and Hand Decorated African Babanki Mask from likely Cameroon. The piece dates back to the period from 1960 to 1990. Most of these types of masks were in possession of individual lineages; they often represent a variety of animals and typically appear at memorial services for the dead. Elephant masks are rarely seen as they are associated with royalty and special lineages. Pieces's eyes, face, nose, tooth and ears are all covered with decorative beads of various colours. Very decorational and specific to the tradition. Usually from the North of Cameroon. Usually large in scale. Made from and decorated on wood material. The piece is in good condition without any significant problems, small signes of age and use, bead loss to certain areas.
