Matching sofas came down to North Carolina from Virginia just after the Civil War with my great-great grandmother. My mother believes they are from the 18th century. They’ve been in the family for generations. They are 52” wide and 33” tall at the highest point.

Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A pair of Victorian or Renaissance Revival carved walnut settees
American, possibly Southern States, mid 19th Century
Each with serpentine shaped crest rail centering carved rosettes flanked by arched ends, a serpetine seat rail centering a carved rosette, raised on short cabriole legs ending in casters. Upholstered in a faded red or pink chenille upholstery.
Each 33 inches tall, 52 inches long
CONDITION: both appear to be in good condition with wear commensurate to age and use.
PROVENANCE: inherited
$200-300 each or $400-600 for the pair*
