What does this mean?

Hi Michael,

Thank you for contacting Mearto with your appraisal inquiry.
With the raised panel lid and dovetails like that, it's unlike this is as old as the 17th century (1600s); it's almost certainly mid 18th Century or later.
Is the mount on the front a lock? I can't tell for certain but have indicated that is the case here so if it's different please let me know so I can correct it.
Based on the photos and information provided, and subject to examination, this is:

A Georgian oak six-board chest (possibly a sea chest)
English, mid 18th Century or later
The hinged lift-top with floating raised panel, dovetailed sides and molded base, with wrought iron side handles and front lock mechanism.
21 inches high by 38 inches wide by 24 1/2 inches long
CONDITION: wear commensurate with age and use. Stained interior.
PROVENANCE: acquired at an estate sale auction
$500-800*
